GTL Energy Ltd, an Australian based technology company, and Roberts & Schaefer , a US  based engineering and construction company with offices in Chicago, Salt Lake City, Australia, Indonesia, Poland, India, South Africa and Chile, have announced a business alliance to take advantage of market opportunities worldwide for a revolutionary, cost-effective, energy-efficient way to dry, beneficiate and transport low rank coal.

GTL Energy Ltd (GTL Energy) today announced that construction and commissioning of its proprietary ‘first-of-a-kind’, low rank coal upgrading plant, located near South Heart, North Dakota, USA has been completed.

Solid Energy (of New Zealand) and GTL Energy today announced that they are shipping a bulk sample of New Zealand lignite to GTL Energy’s commercial scale plant, near South Heart, North Dakota, USA, where GTL Energy will process the sample into high rank coal briquettes, as well as pre-test process equipment for deployment to New Zealand.

The North Dakota Department of Health (Air Quality Division) today issued the Air Permit (Permit-to-Construct) to GTL Energy for its coal beneficiation plant near South Heart, North Dakota. GTL Energy now has all of the permits required to complete construction and move into commissioning and operations in the third quarter of 2009.
